And other people come in. All day long, in and out, people coming in. They have friendly faces, they bring new information or messages, they have things for us to sign or read or do...and for the most part, Sam accepts this rotating cast of characters.
Sam doesn't always want to chat. But give him enough time, and ask him about turtles or frogs...and you're probably going to get a smile from him.
Offer to teach him to make water guns out of syringes? Friend for life.
A little mischief goes a long way |
Learning to refill the syringe |
Pleased as punch because he just got me with a spray of water |
Another "perk" is getting to eat candy...pretty much in quantity.
Sam has had very little appetite yesterday and today. He was pretty excited by these gummy bears (thanks, Erica!) and the doctor said, "calories are calories." So with Dr. J's blessing, Sam ate about half the bag.
Woo-hoo!
Here's hoping for a quiet and uneventful Shabbat.Shabbat Shalom from our (hopefully very) temporary home in Wisconsin....
I'd like to wish you all a completely quiet and boring Shabbat... with plenty of candy.

Shabbat Shalom! May it be peaceful.
ReplyDeleteShabbat Shalom. We are thinking of your family tonight and will be every night..
ReplyDeleteShabbat Shalom Sam, Phyllis, Michael, David, Yael and Solly! May all the love in the world will be upon your family.
ReplyDeleteSammy, I still remember that day, when Zlat and I were babysitting you, guys. Remember, you couldn't stop saying "I hate you" ? :) This was most lovable and kind "I hate you", we've ever heard. Hey, man, looking forward to more of your sweet " hate"s...
Love you so much,
The Kogans
P.S. Sam, would you share with me some of your candies, please :) ?
There are upsides to everything...all the candy you can eat sounds pretty good! :-) Sam and my daughter Amelia were in kindergarten together. You and I ran into each other once or twice at Target. My heart goes out to you and your family, I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers for strength for all of you. Thank you for your willingness to bare all on this blog and share with us. Amelia is looking forward to seeing Sam once he is feeling better and hopes to be in the same class again for 1st grade!

Shabbat Shalom. Thinking good thoughts for you!!!
ReplyDeleteShabbat Shalom!
ReplyDeleteThe electric Shabbat candles may not be nearly as beautiful as actual flames, but they do get the job done! Let me know if you need an electric havdallah candle - it's a little worn now, but it saw me through an awful lot and I'd be happy to send it to you.
Calories indeed are calories, and liquid is liquid - that bright blue powerade (I call it clown juice) served this "organic"/"local"/"natural" girl well, too.
Lots of love,
Amy
(P.S. If you want, you might be able to ask the nurses to put a 'do not disturb' sign on the door for some hours during Shabbat - or other days - so that you can have a predictable break from the constant stream of people. I so treasured those hours!)
Ben is designing a get well card/picture. He knows only that Sam is not feeling well and wants to let him know he is missing his friend and hopes he "gets well soon" He says it should be completed tomorrow and then we will mail it to the house. Keeping you in our hearts and prayers

Hey, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI love that name because I have a Sam, too - he's much bigger & older & moodier than you because that's what teenagers do best, but he has a little brother named Max. You won't remember these 2 characters because we left Chicago to move to Texas when you were so little!
Max & David were besties at Lutz, & he still talks about him even though they haven't seen each other in 5 years! Your momma, dad & I have a bunch of old pictures of those two getting into all kinds of mischief.
We love hearing about you & the family on Facebook & the holiday cards we exchange, & your mom is so awesome to send hamentashen every year!
We were bummed to hear you weren't feeling well & would have to spend some time at the hospital, but we know you'll kick it's butt & be feeling awesome again soon, little dude!
Max is also a huge fan of turtles - we're setting up an aquarium in his room this summer with little red bellied turtles, his fave. I bet we could totally get mom & dad on board with the whole turtle concept for when you're well & back at home. I'll work on them a bit from here & you give them the big Puss In Boots eyes every so often - I predict mission accomplished!
Much love from Texas!
Ms. Jenny, Army Guy Steven, Sam & Max
p.s. Mom says you like frogs as well. I was cleaning our pool the other night & stepped in a GIANT pile of frog poop! In my BARE FEET! It was huge, but in Texas absolutely everything, even the frog poop, is bigger. Thought you'd enjoy that story!
ReplyDeleteSam,
ReplyDeleteI was sad to hear that you are not well!! I know that with so many people out there sending their love and prayers, and with so many awesome dr's helping you, and of course with the amazing strength of your parents, you will be well again soon!!
All your friends at lutz are sending big hugs and love your way!!
Xoxo
Lynne
P.s. enjoy all the candy!!! Eat up!!
Hi Sammy..it's me Asher. I hope you come home soon so I can have a play date with you...we can go see Madagascar 3 and eat popcorn..I know you love popcorn. I really miss you and I think about you everyday. At night when I am going to sleep I think of you Sammy and that you are going to get out of the hospital soon and we can run and play. I can't wait to see you!
ReplyDeleteShabbat shalom to all the Sommers! Thanks for the posts, Phyllis. And for the pics of smiling Sam! My (canine) Sam and I send big hugs and kisses to all of you.
