Reminders

I love it when people send me texts or emails or Facebook posts with things that remind them of Sammy.

It fills me up to know that there are so many things out there that remind them of his missing presence. It makes me feel so much less alone.

Because, in all honesty, here is a short list of things that remind ME of Sam:

Walking.
Sitting.
Standing.
Waking up.
Going to sleep.
Breathing.
Being....
Catching fireflies, summer 2011....every firefly I see....

Where we were...
1 year ago (today I got an automated email from the yoga studio at which Sam attended camp, reminding him (yes, it was addressed to him) that it was his one-year anniversary with the studio...)

Solly found this feather....
I didn't even have the words to compare the 4th of July fireworks to last December's...I know that so many of you were thinking of him then too.

  1. Of course none of us feels Sam's absence the way you do. I'm glad to know that texts and photos and posts of feathers and turtles and yoga and fireworks remind you that you're not alone. Sending you xoxo from a hot and steamy NYC.

  2. We went to FL last month and went to Seaworld. I took photos of the turtles and wanted to send them to you but felt like as an outsider I would be intruding. I see Sam everyday in my kids. Wm is 8 and everyday I wonder about what is next for him. The fireworks of course! And my little G well she is my adventurous child she is one catching fireflies and picking up feathers and loves snakes and turtles. All your little things that remind you of Sam that you posted to the World now are reminders of how precious life is. Thank you for sharing. Sam will live forever in the hearts of your community and we all feel a tiny piece of your emptiness.

  4. I think of you and Sam sometimes, usually in the quiet of the car, usually seemingly out of nowhere, at times other than reading your posts, and my breath catches as I feel the enormity of this, and I wonder how you're doing in those moments, how you're doing anything. I can't possibly feel it's enormity yet it speaks to me nonetheless and I want you to know. I'm one of those unknown-to-you friends, thinking of you everyday, holding you close from across the country.
